Area students graduate from Coe College

CEDAR RAPIDS – Several area students were awarded degrees at Coe College on May 8.

At Coe’s graduation, President James Phifer conferred Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Music, and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees upon 287 graduates.

Graduates are listed by hometown

Belle Plaine

Justin Janss, Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He is a 2007 graduate of Belle Plaine High School and son of Scott and Jane Janss

Tyler Weeda, Bachelor of Arts, athletic training and physical education. Weeda was named to the Coe College dean’s list for the 2011 spring semester. He is a 2007 Belle Plaine High School graduate and son of Lyle Weeda and Julie Fisher.

Blairstown

Adam Becker, Bachelor of Arts, biology with a minor in physics. He is a 2007 graduate of Benton Community High School and son of Carolyn Kubichek Becker.

Norway

Nicole Havran, Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is a 2007 Benton Community High School graduate and daughter of Steve and Lori Havran.

Hopper graduates from Waldorf

Marissa Joyce Hopper graduated on April 30, 2011, from Waldorf College in Forest City.

Marissa majored in television production and editing and minored in humanities. She graduated with honors (all her courses were through the honors college) and cum laude. While attending Waldorf, she was active in the Theatre, Waldorf Wind Symphony, the Waldorf Choir and the St. Christopher Chorale, a highly selective chamber ensemble of mixed voices. During her years at Waldorf, she traveled to England, Greece and Turkey.

She is a 2007 graduate of Benton Community.

St. Ambrose candidates for spring commencement

DAVENPORT, Iowa – St. Ambrose University held its Spring Commencement at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 14, at the i Wireless Center, Moline, Ill.

A total of 677 degree candidates, including 458 bachelor’s degree students, 212 master’s degree students and 7 doctoral students, were recognized during the ceremonies.

St. Ambrose University, founded in 1882, is a liberal arts university affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church.
