The Chicago Producers Commission Association, co-operative livestock selling agency on the Chicago market, has just completed the most successful year of its operation, according to R.H. Simmons of Marengo, president of the Marengo association.

E.J. Glentzer was chosen to head the Marengo Commercial Club at a meeting of that organization Tuesday night. His selection will replace Joe Hogan who was elected at the annual meeting in December. On account of the scarcity of labor and extra duties in connection with his work at the garage, Mr. Hogan felt obliged to decline the office to which he had been elected.

Some 196 Iowa County swine producers were present for the first organizational meeting of the Iowa County swine producers association at the Ox Yoke Inn, Amana, Jan. 18, reports Don Goering, county extension director. Elected to the board of directors by the group was Howard Beyer, Belle Plaine; Leonard Kruse, Marengo; Russell Herdlicks, Williamsburg; and Cris Evans and Keith Enochson, both of Williamsburg.

Iowa County Savings Bank has named two directors to their board. Seated for their first meeting last Wednesday afternoon were Paul Sauter, 44, Deep River, farmer, and Gerald Olson, 34, South Amana who farms in Hilton Township.
The 1975 Iowa Valley wrestling queen will be crowned at the meet with English Valleys Feb. 4 in the Marengo gym. Candidates, as selected by the Iowa Valley wrestling team, include Andrea Gurdenson, Pam Navara and Jane Meier.

“Point, counterpoint.” That’s how Tom Welch, Iowa Department of Transportation project engineer, described the discussion of affected property owners over whether the state should relocate Iowa Highway 149 straight north from the Little Amana interchange or follow the existing W-21 (L) Road. Victor Schaefer … noted reasons given by those in favor of the road (being paved) were that they needed a good road for the church and cemetery. If the state would not pave the road, then the county would have to and they feared the county couldn’t afford to do it. However Larry Huedepohl … repeated his objections: windbreaks and farm outbuildings would have to be taken for right-of-way.
Deep River-Millersburg had already beaten arch-rival Amana twice this year, but last Monday night in the first round of the Iowa Cedar Six Conference tournament at Amana, the Rockettes gained revenge by beating the Falcon girls, 39-33.

Of the following students who participated in District Large Group speech Contests Saturday at Belle Plaine High School, Iowa Valley’s TV News Broadcasting team received a I (Superior) rating at district competition. It will advance to state competition Saturday, Feb. 7, at Marshalltown. The TV newscasting team included Andrea Motsinger (news anchor), Matt Bolger (weather), Rob Nielsen (sports), Ryan Head, Alan Hautekeete, Rachelle Saunders and Paul Voigtman.
Gary Ray, Ray and Associates, Cedar Rapids, detailed what his firm would do to search for a new city administrator at the Marengo City Council’s Monday night meeting. “Quite frankly, there’s a real shortage of city administrators around the country,” Ray said in beginning his presentation before the council. Most are already employed, he asserted.
