Benton Community High School, Van Horne, presents its annual Touch of Class Show Choir Invitational on February 11, where 21 show choirs will be competing at the Benton Community High School gymnasium in Van Horne. In addition, Benton’s three show choirs – “Illusions,” “Jubilation Inc.,” and “Celebration Co.” – will perform in exhibition during the day.
Touch of Class 2012 will feature both varsity and prep divisions and show choirs from 3A and 4A schools. Cedar Rapids groups competing will include Jefferson’s “Ovation” and “West Side Delegation;” Xavier’s “Xuberance” and “Xhilaration;” Prairie’s “Focal Point” and “Ambassadors”. Show choirs from Iowa competing are, Indianola, Iowa City West, Union High School, Williamsburg, Anamosa, Waterloo West, West Des Moines Valley, Fort Madison, Mount Pleasant, Norwalk, and Pella. Lincoln, Nebraska’s “Ambience” and “Resonance” from Southwest High School will also perform. Benton’s middle school show choir “Illusions” will be the invitational’s first performer at 8:10 a.m. “Jubilation, Inc.” will perform at 12:50 p.m. with “Celebration Co.” performing at 6:10 p.m. just prior to the announcement of the daytime awards. Jim Berry, will be the master of ceremonies.
Free parking will be available at the high school, and free shuttle buses to the high school will be provided in the afternoon and evening for Van Home residents and visitors.
Turkey sandwiches, walking tacos, pizza, ice cream, homemade bars and cookies, vegetables and fruit are just a few of the food items that will be available at the concession stand throughout the day.
Approximately 150 Benton students and 300 parents and community members volunteer their time and talents during Touch of Class every year and as a new feature, this year’s Touch of Class will be broadcast on KCRG’s local 9.2 channel.
