A construction worker from Belle Plaine was severely injured in an accident at Benda Ag Service north of Vining Jan. 30.
Tama County Sheriff Dennis Kucera said the victim, later identified at Trevor Abernathy, 22, sustained a severe head injury at approximately 4:39 p.m. when he fell from a ladder onto a piece of rebar sticking from the ground.
An employee of Wiebke Construction, Elberon, Abernathy was working on an outbuilding when the accident occurred.
Abernathy was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
The Elberon Fire Department, Elberon ambulance, Dysart ambulance and Tama County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident.
Roberta Abernathy, Trevor’s mother, said Monday her son remains in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. He is in stable condition and out of danger, although a long recovery is anticipated. Visitors are limited.
